What Specimen Gallery Accepts
Specimen Gallery is a public collection of transparent specimen cutouts intended for visual reference, illustration, and design workflows.
We prioritize images that are:
- • Clear and high quality
- • Focused on a single specimen
- • Suitable for reuse in scientific and educational contexts
Image Ownership & Licensing
Please only upload images that you:
- • Created yourself, or
- • Have the legal right to share under an open license
We support the following licenses:
Public Domain
You waive copyright and allow anyone to use the image freely, without attribution.
Attribution Required
Others may use the image freely, but must credit the creator.
About Stock Images
Stock images (for example from free photo websites) may be used only if their license is compatible with CC-BY and proper attribution is provided.
However, for long-term scientific and educational use, we strongly encourage original photographs and observations whenever possible.
Image Quality Guidelines
For best results:
- • One specimen per image
- • Minimal background or clean cutout
- • PNG or WebP preferred
- • Minimum resolution of 512 × 512 pixels
Images do not need to be perfectly isolated — clarity is more important than perfection.
Scientific Naming
When uploading, please provide the most accurate scientific name you can.
If you are unsure:
- • Use the suggested taxonomy results
- • Or submit the image for review
Community and curator review helps improve accuracy over time.
Our Goal
